How long to wait before asking if she wants to get back together?

Q: “Well my girlfriend recently told me she wants us just to be friends. I still have feelings for her, No idea if she still likes me, how long should I wait before asking my ex girlfriend wants to get back together?”

A: It depends… every couple, every relationship, and every breakup is different. How long to wait before contacting your ex again can depend on certain factors, such as: whether you did the dumping or you were dumped, why you broke up, and how much emotional control you have.

In your situation, because your girlfriend broke up with you, it’s important not to contact your ex too early or too often. For example, here are signs that indicate that it is NOT the right time to contact your ex again:

• You experience daily (or hourly) crying fits and/or emotional outbursts.
• You haven’t been out of bed for 3 days or more.
• You call and/or instant message your ex several times a day.
• Your “ex back” plan is to beg for your ex to take you back and not give up till they say yes (or until they RUN away!).

OK, in all seriousness… This is a time to be very honest with yourself. Contacting you ex immediately is probably OK if you did the breaking up. However, if your ex broke up with you, it goes without saying that you need to back off for awhile and give your ex some time.
